Arco 2017 Lead World Cup Qualifying
With the roar the competition began. Sadly it wasn’t a roar of excitement, one of pleasure at seeing the world’s best climbers, no it was the roar of the music, turned up to a ridiculous volume for the event.
Being, at times, a grumpy bastard, Immediately raised the issue of the volume with the officials. Sadly it was a complaint that fell on deaf ears. With a volume measured at a constant 85db in the middle of the field and at 110db where the webcasting crew were setting up, it wasn’t a surprise to see the crowd leaving in ones and two’s, hands over their ears. Indeed I threatened long and loud to leave as I love climbing but I’m not going to risk long term hearing damage just to humour the local organizers who think all you need to do to make something more exciting is turn the volume up!
But, anyway, back to the climbing. Arco is one of the most spectacular events on the calendar and it didn’t disappoint. Here are all the photos of the action, including of course the first appearance of Ashima Shiraishi on the World Cup stage.
