Briancon 2017 Lead World Cup qualifying
When it comes to the IFSC Lead World Cup in Briancon we are faced with a World Cup unlike any other. With a real family based community feel, the Briancon World Cup always has a friendly, inclusive feel. The athletes are known to the fans, and those fans spread generations as they come in to pack the venue, ready to see their heroes in action.
An excellent job setting provided even those fans braving the heat of a scorching Friday a lot of entertainment, with the qualifying round splitting most of the climbers more effectively than we’ve seen of late, and the crimpy, challenging routes keeping the climbers on edge the whole time.
One climber, unused to World Cup setting said they expected a series of cruxes through the route but instead, to them at least every single move (until they fell), felt like V6.
This sustained, intense setting style works great on the shorter wall of Briancon, ensuring few bottlenecks and lot of spent climbers at the end of the round.
