Nestled in the Swiss alps close to the Italian border lies the aptly named Magic Wood.
A name gifted to the area before it became a destination for climbing due to its otherworldly jumbling appeal, an ancient rockfield overgrown with dense forest. One of the most heavily visited climbing areas on the planet in season it really is an outdoor gym with beautiful lines on so many boulders in close proximity that you can have many a full days climbing within 20 minutes’ walk of the car park.
For some the crowding is a deterrent but for others the melting pot of cultures rammed into the camping ground and the guest house make the fun vibe irresistible. To each their own but now boulderers journey is complete unless they at least sample stunning problems.
When you’re looking at coming a stay go to www.valferrera.com and book yourself in. I highly recommend the new Bodhi Chalet!
Please note, not every photo in this album signifies an ascent, all the photos were taken during attempts with no posing as always.
