Munich 2017 Boulder WC Womens Quali
One of the most intense rounds of the year, women’s qualifying in Munich had it all. It went from warm, to cold, to a delay caused by incredible rain and wind that somehow penetrated to defenses of Munich’s incredible roof. The rain was coming in horizontally, driven by incredible winds to hit the wall that was a good 30 metres or more under shelter.
What this meant of course was a sizable delay, with the climbers being held well over an hour in isolation while conditions improved and the wall was dried. As a result of this there was still climbers in action at 1am, 18 hours after the guys started in the morning. This meant an incredibly short turn around for the officials, judges, coaches and climbers who had to be back in the morning (well the morning once the sun had risen) for semi finals.
