Russian Training Camp Munich 2017
When I first came onto the World Cup scene a few years back that feeling was not dispelled. The first Russians I met were stony faced and uncommunicative, as intimidating in real life as they seemed in the media.
Over time though I made it my goal to talk to the Russians, to understand their perspective. I wanted to learn about these people that had been painted as gremlins in western culture for so long! I learnt a lot. I learnt behind the shell the Russians are lovely, warm hearted people like everyone else. Indeed, today I am lucky enough to count some Russian climbers amongst my good friends.
I want to give a huge thank you to CSKA for allowing me to spend time with the team in camp and to the awesome folk at Boulderwelt who provided some great training sets for the team and were incredibly accommodating! Also you’ll see strong Israeli Alex Khazanov in the album as well as he dropped by for a couple of days climbing.
