The Circuit Top Picks 2017: Tomoa Narasaki
Best Result: 2017 World Champion, 2 World Cup wins
2016 season rank: 1
Despite his young age, Tomoa is entering his 6th year of World Cup competition. Originally a hot prospect for the Japanese team in lead, Tomoa has instead focused on bouldering for the last couple of seasons.
Many of us on the tour were well aware of Tomoa’s awesome power, but his inconsistency meant that for a long time the threat he posed wasn’t realised.
Then, somewhere early last season something clicked.
Since taking his first win in Chongqing last year, Tomoa has never finished below second, including a decisive victory at the World Champs in Paris.
Will he continue the incredible run of form into 2017? We’ll just have to see.
