World Games 2017 Poland, Boulder Finals
Climbing once again showed itself as an excellent spectator sport with broad appeal during the 2017 World Games in Poland. The first event of the weekend was the Bouldering, which once again demonstrated that with its simple, easy to understand format it is a crowd favorite.
The Bouldering finals was clearly the crowd favorite of the event, helped by excellent routesetting by Jacky Godoffe and team which provided perfect separation and saw all four problems topped by the winner in both mens and womens.
This event was also a huge breakthrough for the young winner in the men’s, Yoshiyuki Ogata of Japan. Yoshiyuki has shown the potential for a couple of seasons, on Friday that potential was realized and he took out the biggest international climbing event of the year. In doing so he became the first Bouldering winner in the event where only Speed and Lead had previously been represented!
In the women’s, Serbian Stasa Gejo looked unstoppable from the first problem and so it proved to be. The winner of the first Junior Gold Medal in Bouldering at the Arco World Champs in 2015 adding the first World Games Bouldering gold to her trophy cabinet.
